Warmer weather and a laid-back summer schedule make this a great time to plan a cookout at your home. We have some things for you to consider when you are planning a family friendly cookout.

Cookouts are a great way to gather with family and friends. If you have a toddler running around, you might breathe a sigh of relief when friends decide to gather at home versus a restaurant. Warmer weather and a laid-back summer schedule make this a great time to plan a cookout at your home. Here are some things to consider when hosting a group, specifically a group with young children.

Make food that appeals to all age groups. Most people enjoy fresh seasonal fruit. Watermelon wedges are easy to serve as a family-friendly appetizer or dessert. Hamburgers and hot dogs are always crowd-pleasers, but if you are serving barbecue, consider cooking some of the chicken without any spicy sauce for the younger crowd.
Create a playful environment. Set out yard games, sidewalk chalk, and soccer balls. People can enjoy a little activity while they chat with friends.
Be sensitive to food allergies. If you know of a friend with a sensitivity or an allergy, ask them to bring a side dish or dessert that fits their needs. Chances are everyone else will enjoy the dish as well.
Make a special drink for the event. Infused water or mocktails are visually appealing and refreshing on a warm day.
