Keto Diet

The most recent dieting trend is the ketogenic diet, or commonly known as the keto diet. It is a low carbohydrate, adequate protein and higher fat meal plan. The goal of the keto diet is to have the body reach a state of ketosis, this is where fat becomes the primary fuel source instead of carbohydrates. When ketosis happens metabolizing fat becomes more efficient, typically yielding quick weight loss. When you’re following the guidelines of this meal plan it is possible to reach ketosis in about two to three days.
During a keto diet the majority of calories are coming from healthy fats, a moderate amount of protein and non-starchy vegetables. Typical foods included on the meal plan are avocado, sea food, cheese, eggs, asparagus, butter, coconut oil, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, lettuce, mushrooms and some squash, just to name a few. The foods to steer clear of are bread, desserts, fried food and processed carbohydrates. As with any dietary change it’s best to consult with your doctor to ensure a new meal plan meets your needs. The keto diet has a lot of similarities to diet trends of days past. Fortunately, an increased number of restaurants are offering healthy options and meals that fit with the keto plan. In our modern world it’s easy to find great recipes, cook books and websites dedicated to the keto diet and many other meal plans. Finding a sustainable eating routine is an important decision that should be fun and life giving.
