Memorial Day is tomorrow and it’s the unofficial start of grilling season. Stock up at your local Strack & Van Til on the items you need to make your barbecue the best.

Indulge in the Cheddar Bacon burger, made with Wisconsin cubed cheddar cheese and savory bacon. For an added kick, try the Pepper Jack Bacon burger.

“The burger, cheese and bacon combination delivers a mouth-watering experience every time,” says Meat and Seafood Department Director, Gary Teachman.

Dig in to a gooey Swiss and Mushroom burger or relish the taste of a Cheddar burger. Each pairs well with grilled onions and is the ultimate comfort food.

The Blue Cheese pub burger is a “Black and Blue” burger done right, and the Mozzarella Italian burger will spice up your menu. Try the Black Pepper burger, a Strack & Van Til classic for years.

Freshly made salmon burgers are available in the Strack & Van Til Seafood Department and provide important OMEGA 3s. Enjoy zesty dill, Cajun, Spinach feta and garlic Parmesan.

Like grilled sausage? Strack & Van Til has 35 varieties, made fresh daily in-store from the finest ingredients, including Smithfield Prime Pork and Strack & Van Til signature seasonings.

Try savory mild or hot Italian sausage, Holiday Italian with Italian cheese, bell peppers and onions, apple, Southwestern chorizo, garlic Polska, Andouille and Siracha Pepper Jack Andouille.

For a real crowd pleaser, serve Bratwurst on the grill, including regular, cheddar, bacon cheddar, Jalapeno or beer bratwurst made with a beer favorite that changes seasonally.

Meat kabobs include Certified Angus Beef center cut top butt, Hand Trimmed Fresh Natural chicken, Smithfield Prime pork tenderloin or natural turkey tenders.

Seafood kabobs feature shrimp, farm raised Atlantic salmon or tuna. Many Strack & Van Til stores have a grill in the seafood department and can grill your kabobs for you.

Shullsburg Brun-Uusto Cheese is from a small family-owned and operated cheese factory in southwest Wisconsin and is available at your local Strack & Van Til store. Brun-Uusto is made in the traditional old-world way of Sweden and Finland and is known as “juustoleipa” or “bread cheese”. It’s baked to form a tasty crust similar to toasted bread and is perfect on the grill since it softens slightly and turns the cheese silky and smooth..

Use a gas grill, charcoal grill, or even an indoor grill pan to make the perfect appetizers or snacks:

Grilled Brun-Uusto Cheese

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Slice Brun-Uusto Cheese into squares or wedges (1/2 inch thick)
  3. Brush both sides of cheese with oil to prevent sticking and to add flavor
  4. Place cheese directly on grill grates, grill 2-3 minutes per side or until you see grill marks and cheese starts to soften. Remove when cheese is warm and slightly gooey—avoid overcooking or melting.
  5. Serve warm with jam, honey or a sprinkle of fresh herbs. Pairs well with crusty bread, crackers or fresh fruit like apples or pears.


Brun-Uusto Cheese Skewers

  • Brun-Uusto cheese, cut into bite-size cubes
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Olive oil
  • Balsamic glaze (thick)

Thread cheese cubes onto small skewers, alternating with tomatoes and basil leaves. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil. If desired, drizzle with balsamic glaze for extra flavor.

Serve kabobs immediately, alone or served with your favorite soft bread.
